Happy One Year!
12 Months = 12% Fewer Kids in Foster Care System
At CBC of Central Florida, our success is measured by the number of children in foster and group homes: the fewer, the better. So we're excited to share that in our first year of overseeing child welfare in Orange and Osceola counties, the number of children in the system has dropped an incredible 12%.
By the numbers:
- In July of 2011, there were a total of 2,726 Orange and Osceola-county children living in a foster home, residential group home or with a relative.
- As of March 15, 2012, that number had decreased to 2,434.
- That success was fueled in large part by a 25% decrease in children in group homes – from 212 to 169.
- To compare, the state experienced a 1% decrease in children in the child welfare system during the same time period.
This is a significant victory for our team members and the many partners we rely on to help our community's most vulnerable children. On behalf of them, we thank you!
About Us
CBC of Central Florida is a non-profit agency charged with developing community-based services and supports for children and families served by the child welfare system in Central Florida. A core value is the belief that all children have the inalienable right to grow up safe, healthy and fulfilled in families that love and nurture them.
We have been committed to serving the children and families of Central Florida who have been victims of, or at risk of, abuse, neglect or abandonment since 2004. Community Based Care is Florida's child welfare initiative that transfers public child welfare services to the private sector. In response to this initiative, a group of local providers came together to develop a community-based "lead agency" that combines compassion and innovation with flexibility. The result is CBC of Central Florida.
Our ongoing goal includes providing the necessary services to the more than 3,000 children we serve by strengthening the relationships between our families, foster parents, case management team and network of local service providers who deliver a multitude of direct services to children.
Our Mission
It is the mission of Community Based Care of Central Florida that all families in Central Florida are able to safely care for their children by engaging, protecting and inspiring every child, every day. We accomplish this mission by developing and managing a comprehensive, coordinated, community-based system of care for abused, neglected and abandoned children and their families.
